Justice Jamal was born in Kenya, raised in England, and completed high school in Edmonton. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at McGill University and received a Master of Laws from Yale University, which he attended on a Fulbright Scholarship.
He practiced at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP for over 23 years and appeared in front of the Supreme Court of Canada for 35 appeals dealing with civil, constitutional, criminal, and regulatory issues, including issues of Quebec civil law.
Justice Jamal was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 2019 and then to the Supreme Court of Canada on July 1, 2021.
